Welcome to Mrs. Boothman's First Grade!

Hello! My name is Lori Boothman. I am looking forward to an exciting, productive year working in the First Grade with your child. Throughout my years of teaching, I have become committed to the importance of parental involvement in a child's education. I firmly believe that your child receives the best education possible when you and I work as a team. I welcome your calls and messages. Anytime you have anything you'd like to discuss, please call the school office at 963-6433. I will return your call as quickly as possible. You have entrusted me with a most special gift, your child. Together we can make your child's first grade year a great experience.

Below is a brief summary of our activities for each day of the week:

 Monday: P.E.

 Tuesday: Art

Wednesday: Music, Library Computer Lab

 Thursday:Music, Library, P.E.

Friday: P.E.

How can I help my child be a better reader? As you read at home each night with your child, remind them to use our reading strategies to determine unknown words:

*Look at the pictures.

*Say the first sound.

*Look for chunks in the word.

*Think about the meaning of the sentence.

*Skip the word and then go back to see what would make sense.

*Go back and read it again.

After you read a tricky word, have your child ask themselves:

 *Does it look right?

*Does it sound right?

 *Does it make sense?
