WGHS Mission Statement
The Webster Groves School District community is committed to academic and personal success for every student.
HEADLINES Dear Parents and Guardians:
The Board of Education has approved resolutions to place a tax levy proposition and bond issue on the ballot April 6. I'd like to share some of my thoughts on what these propositions will mean to the children in our district.
You should know that the board will commit money from Proposition S, the 55-cent tax levy, to areas that benefit student learning the most. It will preserve small class sizes and sustain teacher and staff salaries at the St. Louis median, two key factors in our district's academic success. Proposition W is a $36 million zero-tax-increase bond issue dedicated to renovating and repairing Webster Groves High School. The district would update the school's aging plumbing, roofing, electrical and structural systems. The bond issue would also pay for a 106,350 square-foot addition on the north end of the school for new technology and science labs, fine arts rooms and much-needed additional classroom space. A recent accreditation report praised the High School's programs and the students' academic achievements but commented that the facilities are "less than adequate."
The district has found it necessary to ask voters for approval of these measures because it has no source of income that grows. State funding to the Webster Groves has been frozen since 1993. Federal funds are flat. Through careful planning, the School Board has stretched our resources as far as possible without sacrificing the success of our schools and students. Passage of Propositions S and W would make a significant difference for each child and teacher in our school system. Your continued support of the district is appreciated. I would be happy to discuss this matter with you personally.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jon Clark, Principal
