The Webster Groves Gifted Curriculum spans grades K - 12.  The curriculum's instruction pace is flexible, allowing for accelerated learning as appropriate while providing a continuum of curricular options, instructional approaches, and resources to meet the unique individual needs of individual gifted learners.  A scope and sequence of performance skills has been developed in the key areas targeted by the gifted curriculum.  These areas are aligned with the Show-Me Performance Standards and can be applied to increasingly challenging work offered to gifted students.  These areas are:

  • COMMUNICATION  (Written and Oral)
  • RESEARCH SKILLS
  • THINKING SKILLS / PROBLEM SOLVING
  • CREATIVE EXPRESSION
  • AFFECTIVE EDUCATION

While these strands function interdependently, they are most effectively taught when woven together in lessons.  The strands focus on the students and their present capabilities.  In addition, these strands help students advance to higher levels of knowledge and performance skills.

The Webster Groves Gifted Curriculum is organized into grade-level themes at the elementary and middle school levels.  Students' level of conceptual thinking and grade level content are used to determine the themes. Themes are rotated on a two year cycle in grades one and two, and a three year cycle at grades three, four and five. The theme areas are:

The Webster Groves Gifted Curriculum is organized by content areas in the high school.  Webster Groves Gifted and Talented Program is a four-year program designed for academically and creatively talented freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors.  In addition to a rigorous curriculum, all students have the opportunity to come together monthly to share affective and academic experiences.
