Welcome to the first annual Steger Film Festival! This year's film festival theme is "My World". Students are encouraged to create fictional or non-fiction films related to the theme.
All Steger students complete a film for a year-long project which will cover 2/3 of the sixth grade library curriculum standards. Within the project guidelines, students learn more about copyright and fair use, Internet safety and etiquette, collaboration, uploading and downloading files, saving files, researching and planning a long-term project, video editing and music editing. Students also learn more about using audiovisual equipment, manipulating images, sounds, lighting and camera angles and storytelling as part of the project. Although students have the opportunity to checkout cameras and some equipment to shoot their films outside of the school setting, all editing must be completed at school to provide fair access of editing resources to everyone.
UPDATE: Students are allowed to use their own digital devices AT HOME to complete their raw film footage. Raw film footage must be completed as soon as possible (end of Februrary) in order for students to move forward with the project. Students who choose to make a slide show-type movie must have all (30-40) pictures saved to a flash drive or server folder by the end of February.
UPDATE: All students who wish to enter the Film Festival must have their films completed by Friday, April 13th. Students must complete a form provided by Ms. Olsen. More details about the form will be announced. Students who are not entering movies in the contest must have them finished by May 4th.
Students will have the opportunity to share their movies with the other students in their homerooms. At that time, the students will be able to enter their completed films in the film festival competition for judging by outside parties. To be eligible, the films must be related to the theme "My World". Here are the five judging categories:
1. Most Creative Film About "My World" (Fictional or Non-Fiction)
2. Best Documentary About "My World" (Non-Fiction)
3. Best Feature Film About "My World" (Non-Fiction)
4. Best Animated or Stop-Motion Film About "My World" (Fiction or Non-Fiction)
5. Best Fantasy Film About My World (Fiction)
UPDATE: Our Red Carpet Event will be held DURING the school day at Steger. Date and time to be announced.
