All About Mrs. LaRose The 11-12 school year marks my nineteenth year at Steger. I taught communication arts and math for nine years before taking on math full time. During prior summers I went through training to be a Certified CMP 2 Regional Trainer and consulted for Prentice Hall Publishing Company. I had the opportunity to facilitate a CMP 2 Users' Conference held at Washington University and to work with several area districts who recently adopted the Connected Math Program. I also spent an intense week in Palo Alto, CA. at the American Institute of Mathematics. I worked with a diverse group of cohorts sponsored by Washington University. We launched the first "Teachers' Math Circle" in the St. Louis area during the 07-08 school year. All four Steger math teachers participated and it was a huge success. Recently, I have been working the the Science Outreach Department at Washington University. I am teaching graduate courses for a cohort group of teachers working toward their math certificates. I spent part of this summer working with a cohort group of teachers from Hazelwood. The course offered a unique opportunity for me to teach along side a university professor/mathematician. He offered some challenging mathematical ideas for me to ponder as I integrated pedagogy with the cohort members. Work aside, I enjoyed finishing a couple home improvement projects, home decorating, camping, and attending a few Cardinal baseball games. After a summer of fun with family and friends I am feeling rejuvenated and excited to get the 11-12 school year started. Pictured below is my family. My son, Nick is an '09 graduate of Fort Zumwalt High School. He currently works full time and is trying to decide on a major before heading back to school. My daughter, Gabrielle, will be a junior at Fort Zumwalt West High School. The shaved bald guy is my husband Tim! (he he he) He is an avid softball player who loves to sing and play around in his home away from home (aka.....his garage). |
